My Favorite Animals
I like animals very much. Dogs and cats are my favorite animals because they have been popular among humans for a long time and they are partners in our life. When I was in Japan, I had a dog and a cat. They are so cute. My dog is a Yorkshire terrier, and her name is Vivi. She is so naughty. She always runs barking in the garden. Meanwhile, my cat is very quiet. Her name is Monroe. She usually sleeps on my bed. They have different characters, but I like the behavior of both animals.
The more time I live with my dog and cat, the more interested I become in their different characters. Thanks to them, I thought that I would study zoology. I'll study zoology in SIU. I'm looking forward to studying it. After I study zoology, I would like to work at a publishing company and publish a book about animals. I hope that I can live a pleasant existence with animals. I love dogs and cats as companions very much.

My Favorite Sport
My favorite sport is figure skating. Figure skating is a kind of skating competition. In the Olympics, there are three sections (single, double, and ice dance). Skaters compete with technique and power of expression. Skaters must practice classic ballet because they must learn the power of expression. Therefore, figure skating is not only a sport but also an art. In competition, they are a kind of artist because they dance to the music on the ice. Figure skating also includes various types of choreography and dress. It is possible to see all sorts of viewpoints.
In the Salt Lake City Olympics, two Japanese skaters named Takesi Honda and Fumie Suguri won a prize. I was so happy, because I think that this is a good opportunity for Japanese figure skating to become popular. Figure skating is also popular among Americans. Many figure skating competitions are held in America. I would like to go to see these competitions. Although I can't figure skate, I still like it. When I was a junior high school student, my mother often took me to figure skating competitions. I remember vaguely one skater (sorry, I don't remember her name) but she failed in her jump and fell down on the ice. But she didn't give up. She continued skating and won first prize. I was charmed by her performance and smile. I have liked figure skating very much since then.

My Favorite Soccer Team
"Liverpool" is my favorite soccer team. They play in Premiership, England. I have known this team since I was in high school. The first time I watched them was the match between Liverpool and Manchester United. That was the most exciting game in the season because it was the final round match, FA Cup. I had seen their skill, teamwork, and spirit. Although they lost that match, it was a great game and enough to make me love them.
Liverpool is a great team. They have a great stadium, Anfield. They have a great song, ìYouíll Never Walk Alone.î And also they have many great players on the team. Fans of Liverpool call them the ìRed Machinesî because they never give up. They were able to win every tournament not only in England, but also in Europe. They were the League Champions 18 times, European Cup Winners 4 times, FA Cup Winners 6 times and League Cup Winners 6 times. But since 1989, they have never won a tournament again. In 2000, they have won 5 tournaments in one season, the League Cup, FA Cup, UEFA Cup, Intertoto Cup and Charity Shield. That is a sign that they have come back.
Liverpool has many skillful players. The one I like the most is Michael Owen. He is the youngest player on English team. Even though he is small, he is the fastest player in England. He has a sense of the striker and a deadly shot and he is just 23 years old.
This season they have signed the super star from Senegal and World Cup 2002, El- Hadji Diuof. He has shown his incredible skill by scoring two goals in the last match. After winning two matches, Liverpool is second with 36 matches left. I hope that Diuof and Owen will bring Liverpool to the champion game again.

The Best Television Show Ever
"Les guignols" is my favorite television show. I enjoy it because you laugh everytime. Histories that are very serious in the real news are comedies on this show. It airs everyday at 6 oíclock pm on canal horizons.
The show is a cartoon about actualities in the world. Itís a comic news. We have a cartoon of each person, for example there is a cartoon of George W. Bush, Rolnadhino, Nicolas Cage, Will Smith, Nelly and so on and so on.... It is a comedy show which is based on real life.
In one episode, they had a man pretending to be Georges W. Bush some people make fun of the way he talks . The actor who played him used made up words that he said in a Texas accent . It really made me laugh because it actually reminded of the president . In addition, we have a cartoon of the president of the figure skating jury who said to the other members that it is necessary that the French win because their women are more beautiful than other countries'women. In conclusion, we can see animals which claim the right to vote because they are in the country too and everybody can vote. It is a very pleasant and comical show.

The Best Event of the Holidays in Benin
"Stars en herbe" is the best program on television during holidays in my country. "Stars en herbe" means the future famous people in music, sketch, recitation and dance. It is only for teenagers because teenagers are young and are the most people who enjoy themselves during holidays. The program takes place in cultural center once a week and can be seen on TV. So the teenagersí parents can watch them on TV or go to the cultural center. Every program is divided into four parts: music, sketch, recitation and dance. In the music part, the prizewinners compete using a chosen piece of music, for example Celine Dion's song "Titanic," and the board of examiners chooses the winner who must compete with new competers of the following week. He/She must win three times sucessively to win the competition. It is the same thing in the others parts. For the sketch part, the prizewinners who are 3-5 groups compose a sketch on a specific theme and present it. The group who made the best sketch is the winner. In recitation and dance, it is the same rule and in the all parts the winner must win three times successively.
Afterward, there is a special program which is only for the winners (who win three times suceesively) who compete and the best of the best in each category is chosen. There are many different prizes such as trips, money, or recording a song with a national singer.
This program is very fun. I enjoy myself by watching that program on TV. I can learn a song, know what is happened in the country by listening sketches and recitation. So I like it so much.

My Favorite Place
Do you like bright sun, white sand and clear sea? All I mentioned is on Samet Island that I must visit if I have free time or on my weekends. Actually I go there 6-7 times in one year. Each time I will go with 4-5 of my close friends and stay for 3 days and 2 nights. We will swim all day and in the evening we will play beach volleyball.
Samet Island lies in the Rayong province not far from Bangkok, only 3-4 hours by car or bus. Samet Island has many bays that you can choose to live on and the cost is very cheap; it's only 400-500 baht or 10-15 dollars per day. At Samet you can swim, sunbath, dive, jet ski or ride in a banana boat or you can rent the ship to go fishing or to catch a squid with the fisherman at midnight. You can walk around the island if you like adventure because sometimes you must climb up the rock and walk across the little mountain. But if you like to be more comfortable, you can rent a car to drive around the island also. Furthermore, you can find fresh seafood to eat and get drunk and dance at a restaurant or on the beach, too. Although it will be crowded during festivals or vacations, you can still find a happy life if you go with your close friends and that is why Samet island is my favorite place to go to.

My Favorite Sport, Kendo
ìKendoî is my favorite sport. What kind of sport is Kendo? Kendo players swing a bamboo stick. Sometimes we use a sword, so it is sometimes dangerous. Sometimes players get hurt when they use a real sword.
When I was a child, I started Kendo. It is so interesting to me. During the first 8 months we don't use bamboo sticks so we just warm up. Then 8 months later we use bamboo sticks.
Kendo is very good for our health and mind. Kendo gives people peace of mind, so people like Kendo. I really like Kendo because Kendo is my soul. Four years ago, Kendo was just like my life and my best friend. I always practiced Kendo. Sometimes, I participate in Kendo players competitions. When I get a prize in the competition, I am so proud of myself. Unfortunately my mother doesnít like Kendo because she worries about me getting hurt.
Nowadays, I canít play Kendo but I always miss Kendo. Even though I like Kendo so much, I like my girlfriend more than Kendo.

Motorcycles and cars
My favorite hobbies are riding motorcycles and driving cars because they are very interesting and useful so I like it. Bikes usually very fast speed because their are very light bodies, so I like very much. One year ago, I rode a bike in Japan. I like American style motorcycles so I got one. In Japan, I usually travel during long breaks. I like the sea and mountains so I went to the these place every Sunday. But my home town is not nearby any sea and mountains so it is about a 3-4 hour drive. I was so tired, but it was very fun because I like it. My bike's condition is very bad so sometimes the motor stops. I was very frustrated because the bike I bought was a very cheap, used bike and so many parts were broken. If I have many money, maybe I will everything fix but I was poor so fixing very little. But I like it because it was the my first bike. I was so happy. I like cars very much, bike too. It is very useful because If hot, cold a raining or snowing day very comfortable. If roding bike this scene is impossibility. I like old cars because I think it is style is very astringent and motor's sound is very good so I like it. If were rich, I would buy old cars.
I think riding bikes and driving cars are very dangerous because my friend and high school teacher died one year ago in traffic accident. I hope no one ever dies in a bike or car accident.

He hopes to finish CESL because he wants to study his major. His major is Art. He likes sports, drawing, and painting. He really likes sports, especially Kendo. Kendo is his favorite sport. He has coached Kendo for 4-5 years in Korea.

His name is Makoto Sato. He is from Tokyo, Japan. His hobby is riding motorcycles, driving cars, and traveling. There are three people in his family. He is the eldest son. He studies in CESL. He began studying English in March this year. He thinks studying English is very hard. He needs to speak English because he hopes to work in the USA. After CESL he will study mortuary science at SIU. If he finishes SIU, he will get a job in the USA. If he is successful, he is going to look for a job in a larger company.
