Do You Want to Become an Actor?

Generally, people like moves and go to the movies on the weekend. According to me, it depends on the type of actors who are playing in the movie. My classmate and I want to know, ìDo they want to become an actor?" Last Friday, we asked some questions to find out if people want to become actors. The answers were very interesting. It was one of the questions that posed a little problem to the different people.

All the people we surveyed accepted to answer our questions and it was very pleasant. 60% of the people don't want to become an actor because they cannot assume this responsibility, 40% wanted to be and the 0% of the answers were no opinion. I surveyed 10 people. They were very friendly and gave us answers easily.

To confirm my thoughts, we analyzed the ages of the different people and we remarked that only people between the ages of15-25 want to be actors and people between ages of 26-40 said no. If I asked myself this question I would say "yeah". This confirms my hypothesis and I think that another person's (or even my teacher's!) answers will be varied in relation to their ages.

In conclusion, this exercise permits to us to know that people who have the same ages generally think the same thing. I appreciate this survey. When I surfed in the internet, I remarked that several people become actors after age 26, I hope that people realize their dream.

What Actors do You Like?

My favorite actor is Michael J. Fox because his performance is very good and his movies are interesting. I want to investigate other people's thinking about actor.

I surveyed people about actors with my partner. I asked 10 people in my dormitory. There are a lot of kind people who live there so the questions went very smoothly.

We found some interesting results. I talked them do you like movies? All of the people said yes, I like movies. 2 people said the greatest actor in the world is Harrison Ford and 2 people said Kevin Spacey. I questioned them you want to become an actor? One person said yes, I want to become an actor.

I think all of the people like movies because they are interesting and entertaining. I like movies because I can relate to most of them and they are entertaining. I think 2 people like Harrison Ford and 2 people like Kevin Spacey because they look nice and their performances are very good. One person said I want to become an actor and "It would be a rush to work with many other actors and directorsî. I think he said this because he likes Rubbix Cube so he likes challenges.

I think all of the people like movies. I understand this feeling because movies has an effect for us so I like movie very much.

Japanese Food

Sushi, Sukiyaki, Tenpura, Udon...do you know what these are? These are all Japanese food. Have you ever tried Japanese food? I love Japanese food because it has a great taste and it is very healthy.

I surveyed people about Japanese food with my partner, Byung Hoon Kim. I surveyed in my dormitory, and asked people if they have ever tried Japanese food, what they think about Japanese food, and if they know about sushi. Before I surveyed people, I thought most people know what sushi is because sushi is one of the most popular Japanese food.

Most of the people said they like Japanese food because it has a good taste and it is very healthy. About 40% of the people said they don't know what "sushi" is. They said that they have never gone to Japanese restaurants where they serve sushi. But 100% of the Koreans know what sushi is because in Korea there are many Japanese sushi restaurants. People who are familiar with sushi said they like sushi, but people who arenít familiar with sushi weren't willing to try sushi.

From this survey, I find some interesting results. When people who donít know what sushi is asked me about sushi, I explained what it is. Sushi is ìa small rice ball which is put on a fresh fish fillet.î People who heard that showed an unwilling face, and they said they donít want to try it. While most of the people who are familiar with sushi said it is good. So I think if they try sushi once, most people will like it. Japanese food and sushi have a long history, and people passed it down from generation to generation. I want people who don't try Japanese food to challenge this good food.

Japanese Food

Many people want to try another country's food. So do I. When I was in elementary school, I ate it for the first time. It was Japanese Sushi. It is very good but I don't remember another memory about it because I was kid. I surveyed people about Japanese food with my partner Yoko Ono. Many people are interested in food. Especially, Japanese "Sushiî is one of the popular foods in many countries.

Nowadays, "Sushi" has become a kind of symbol of higher class among high society because it is expensive and very fresh, unlike American food. Therefore, I decided to research about "Sushi" and I got interesting results. My interviewees were thirteen people with my neighborhood, classmate, some another people. They answered my question very kindly.

Many people said they like Japanese food. But just some people know about that by the way 100% Korean people know about "Sushi". The reason is that they have been eating fish. Many American people don't know Sushi. The reason is that they have different life style or different custom. Over 60% people don't know Sushi and 80% people want to try Sushi.

Finally, many American people don't know Sushi but they like Japanese food and they want to eat Sushi.

What Kinds of Movies do You Like?

Have you ever smiled, laughed or cried after you saw a movie? Of course you will have some emotion and at least one movie has impressed you. So I want to know, what kinds of movies that most people like, how people feel when they see a movie, and have they ever seen the same movie more than one time.

I surveyed people about this topic around the SIU campus and my friend, Yoko Taguchi, she surveyed at her dormitory. Almost all the people were friendly and it seems that they were happy when they answered my questions, though some questions made them serious because itís hard to think and make a decision. But all of their answers were very beneficial. When we were done, we had surveyed 12 people (almost all were students).

My results were that 10 out of 12 people see movies once a week and the other 2 people see movies once a month. And all 12 have seen the same movie more than 1 time. One person said, ìI feel like I live in the movie and be that character. That is amazing. 2 females often cry during movies, meanwhile the other see movies to relax. According to the results, all of these people have seen the same movie more than 1 time because they like that movie and can learn something new that they have never seen before. I think impression is an important reason too because maybe the screenplay, special effects or acting from an actor or actress made them laugh or cry.

In my survey 7 out of the 12 like to see comedies and 90% of them are female and all of them are undergraduates. 58% of the people who like comedies are in the 16-25 age group and the other 42% are in the 26-40 age group. I think the reason for this is because younger people choose the type of movie to see suitable for them. At this age they just study and hang out with friends so they are not so serious and teenagers like to have fun or joke with other people. For me, comedies can be positive for people too; if you have a good emotion or can make people laugh, of course everyone will love you.

Internet Technology: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow

Do you realize that the internet has become the most important thing in your daily life, like your home, your clothes or your car? The internet is a source of the information that contains a lot of knowledge from all over the world. You can go around the world while you are sitting in your own house!

I surveyed people about the internet with my partner, Ingrid. We wanted to know how often do people use the internet, how do they use the internet and also, we wanted to know about the future direction of the internet. We walked around campus to find some people that could answer our questions. Some people were too busy to do our survey, but many of them could do it for us.

After my partner and I have done the survey, we were not surprised by the results. Everyone uses the internet everyday for sending e-mail, chatting with their friends who live in another country, shopping or searching for information. They all said that the internet is very useful and makes their life easier. One of them said that the internet is an indispensable part of his life and he isnít exaggerating because he uses the internet 8 hours a day. Only 2 out of the 12 said the internet is not important to their life. Everyone said that in the future the internet will reach every single personís life around the world. But they do not agree that someone should just sit in a room and go online all day.

In our survey, the people we asked use the internet everyday and they all are studying in the university. I think the reason that the internet is important to them is because it makes their life easier. They donít have to write mail on a paper and wait a month for a reply. And also they donít have to go to the library. Just sit down and go online and a million books will be in front of you on the internet. Even though the internet is the best thing that has happened to our life right now, there is more than that outside. Something more than a monitor and keyboard. This is why people do not agree that someone should just sit in a room and go online all day. You should not leave that behind. The real world is out there!

Internet Technology: Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow

Nowadays, technological research is getting better and better. So, there are a lot of ways to communicate with the world (phones, fax, mail, tapes, videos, movies, the internet, etc). If there are so many ways, then which is the best?

According to me, the internet is the best and the most useful way to communicate today all over the world. I wonder what I can do with the internet. With the internet, I can do my shopping in a chosen shop, can learn about the other countries of the world, I can buy my tickets, I can chat with my friends, etc.

To confirm my thoughts, I surveyed people about internet technology. I wanted to know how often they use the internet and what they do online. I also wanted to know if they have ever bought anything by internet. Lastly, I wanted to know if the internet is important for their life and what do they think about the internet in the future. To find people to survey, I went to the study lounge in the Student Center. I surveyed 6 people (3 females and 3 males) there. I also surveyed my partner Hirun Pongpairoj who surveyed 5 people by himself. They were very friendly and gave us answers easily.

The answers are very interesting. All of the people my partner and I surveyed (undergraduate students) use the internet and are in the 16-30 age group. They have different kinds of native languages, such as Spanish, French, Thai, English, Agni, Japanese, Hindi, Chinese and Tshiluba. They go online everyday from once to twice a day. Online they check e-mails, look for information, listen music, visit websites, download songs, and chat with friends.

About the internet, all of them think that it's very helpful and convenient. However, one of them adds that it is sometimes tiring. But 2 out of the 12 surveyed have never bought anything using the internet. All of them completely agree with the fact that people who stay at home and do everything by internet miss out on a lot and may become fat. They also agree on the future of the internet. It's going to get brighter and brighter.

Question 1: What is your gender?
Male 8 Female 4

Question 2 : What age group are you in?
0-15 0
16-20 3
21-30 9
31+ 0

Question 3 : What is your educational level?
Undergraduate 10
Graduate 2

Question 5 : Do you use the internet?
Yes 12
No 0

Question 8 : Have you ever bought anything by the internet?
Yes 10
No 2

Question 10 : Is the internet important to your life?
Yes 9
A little 2
No 1

The survey's results make me think that the internet is a great element in relationships. This is because it brings people of different languages together to do the same things. In addition, it especially brings younger people together because they are more influenced by trends than older people. Younger people like to change with the new trends, whereas older people like to keep their lifestyles. For example, most of the younger people have bought something using the internet at least once. In conclusion, the internet has an important impact on younger people and this impact will become bigger and better in the next years.

Why Do People Watch Movies?

Have you ever thought why many people like watching movies? Yes, I have. But I couldn't answer this question. In America, people watch movies more times than in Japan. I want to explore that attraction to movies.

I surveyed people about movies. I surveyed my dormitory's people. My partner surveyed people at SIU in Morris Library and the Student Center. So, in our survey, the subjects are all college students. I found dormitory people to answer my questions. I chose suppertime, because during supper time dormitory students gather in the dining room. They are so friendly.

According to our survey, 10 people out of 12 watch movies once a week. Only 4 people out of 12 like sports. 7 out of 12 like comedies. All the people have watched the same movie more than once.

I want to talk about our survey. Many people watch movies once a week. I think that the people we interviewed are almost all students and they are busy on the weekdays because they must study very hard. But on the weekends, they don't have to go to school and they can have free time. According to our survey, we interviewed like sports. I think this is interesting because watching movies has something in common with sports. People are excited by both of them. Why do people watch movies? I found this answer. They are exciting. Many people take off after work and do the same thing everyday. It is usual but not exciting and fun. But they want to feel excitement and fun. So they want to watch movies to separate themselves from reality and to find fun and excitement. According to our survey, the people like comedies. I think they can't have time to laugh because they are busy. So, they want to watch comedies in order to laugh.
