Carbondale's Best Center
The best center in Carbondale is the recreation center. I go to the recreation center once a week. In the recreation center, I run, I walk on the treadmill and ride the exercise bike. I wish to make myself better all the time. Sometimes I come to the recreation center only to watch swimmers. Itís beautiful. I donít know how to swim but I would like to learn. However a membership is needed before entering in the recreation center. The recreation center is very useful and interesting because it has many kinds of modern sport equipment and many kinds of programs.
The recreation center is very big. There are many kinds of modern sports materials. In the recreation center there is an alumni lounge, suspended jogging track, wall climbing, dry heat saunas, indoor tennis. There are also basketball, volleyball, badminton, handball, racquetball, squash courts, etc.
There are also many sports programs, such as fitness programs (aerobics), boxing, free weights, martial arts rooms. In addition, there are sports clubs, such as aikido, badminton, ballroom dancing, baseball, canoeing, kayaking, cycling, equestrian, etc. So you can do all you want.
In conclusion, the recreation center with its sporting equipments and programs is the best center in Carbondale. Everybody should come in for relaxation.

Barnes & Noble: The Best Book Store
There is a saying that says, "A book is a source of cleverness." I think it's true because books give you a lot of vision when you read; you can improve your thinking and adapt it to use in your daily life. Barnes & Noble is the best bookstore in Carbondale because it is big, the atmosphere is nice and it is not too expensive.
The first time I went to Barnes & Noble Book Store in Carbondale, I said to myself, "What a large book store this is!" because it's really big if I compare it with the bookstores in my country. It's a large store so you will not be crowded. You will see a lot of books there but every kind of book is classified; it's easy for you to find the books that you want. The corner that I like the most is the magazine corner; it always has the latest issues and it has variety too. I like to read the books about fashion, decoration and interior design, such as Elle Decor, Wall Paper or Spouce from the Netherlands, Arena from England. It's comfortable for you too if you want to sit and read the books because it has a private section.
The atmosphere is one more thing that I like. When I walked in the book store, the first thing that impressed me was the bright green color of the shop. I can feel relaxed, refreshed and warm like I stayed at home.
The prices of books there are reasonable too. Sometimes they will have a discount corner where you can buy cheap books. You can read the book before you make a decision to buy, or if you bought it but you donít like it, you can return it also.
If I go there, I can stay for long hours. Time passes by but I don't know it. Sometimes if you can't find me anywhere, maybe you can meet me at Barnes & Noble Book Store.

The Best Place In Carbondale
The best place in Carbondale is Morris Library. Morris Library has a lot of books. Everyday many students come to the library and study. I do too. I like Morris Library because I like reading books and in Japan my university overwhelmingly has less books than the Morris Library. Morris Library is very useful because it has a lot of childrenís books and academic books.
The Morris Library has many childrenís books. I often borrow childrenís books from the library because I canít read academic books now and it is easier for me read these books. When I choose a book, I can be selective because there are many childrenís books.
The Morris Library has a lot of academic books. If you are looking for books that you really want to read, you should go to Morris Library. You can find books easier because librarians help you to find books. Some of these academic books are textbooks, non-fiction books, and journals.
In conclusion, everyone, from children to adults, can use Morris Library. Reading books is the discovery of happiness. The Morris Library has a lot of happiness so many students should go to the Morris Library.

The Best Place in Carbondale
I often go to the recreation center and do gymnastics or play tennis with my friends. I think that the best place in Carbondale is the recreation center because it has great facilities and going to it can put you in better shape.
In the recreation center, they have many good facilities. There is a big pool, many places to play various sports, and a lot of gymnastics. We can use all these services for free. Of course, we also can borrow sports equipments like rackets, balls, or whatever we need to play sports.
To go to recreation center is good for our health. We sweat and it refreshes us. If we go to the recreation center, everyone can keep their body in tone, so I like this place very much.

Home Sweet Home
Does your place make you feel comfortable? If someone asks me that, I will tell them "Absolutely. Why not? It makes me relax.î I have been here, in Carbondale, for only a month. I live with my brother and his roommate. They have rented their apartment for four years. It is a two-story apartment with two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a living room, a kitchen and a garage. It is located on Sunset Drive. Although it is far from school, itís very quiet and has everything I need in there. My apartment is the most comfortable place in Carbondale because it has a great living room, kitchen and bedroom.
I like to sit in front of the TV in the living room. I can sit there for a whole day. I have a DVD home theatre set so I usually rent DVD movies on the way home after school. I have cable too so I donít have to go to the DVD shop too often because there are many movies on cable. I have a computer in the living room so I can send e-mail, chat with my friends who live in Thailand and go shopping.
I love the refrigerator in the kitchen because it is big and never empty. There is a washer & dryer near the refrigerator so I can look for something to eat while the washer & dryer is running.
In the bedroom, it is warm and I always do my homework in there. I have a stereo too. I love to listen to music while I am doing homework. The bed is very comfortable. Sometimes I donít want to get up and go to school in the morning!
My home has everything I need: a DVD System, a powerful computer, a great kitchen, a cool stereo and the most comfortable bed. Where else do you expect me to go? My home is the best place in Carbondale!

Carbondale's Language Media Center
In Carbondale, the best place is the Language Media Center. I like the L.M.C. For the international students, it is a center where you can learn English, listen to videos and check your email. It is the best place, in Carbondale, because you can learn English free and the atmosphere is very friendly.
First, there are many books and tapes available. Everybody can borrow and learn from them. You can do your homework, learn English, listen to news, music, and record your voice on a tape to improve your pronunciation. There are many educators there who help us to study English.
The atmosphere is very cool. There are flags of many countries, such as Benin, Suisse, Japan, and so on and so on.... You can see all nationalities and exchange different points of view. I think that people are happy to see their flags before they work. You hear all different languages in this place and it is very pleasant, but if you want to communicate with another person, you must talk English.
In conclusion, the L.M.C. is the best place where you can easily learn English and find friends of another nationality. I wish that you'd visit it.

The Best Place in SIU
I study English every day. The library is the best place to study in SIU because the building is a very silent place, it has computers you can use, and it has nice verandah.
The library is very quiet. Everybody studies there seriously so itís very quiet. I think the library must be a quiet area because many people study and need to concentrate. If some people talk too loudly, I think maybe everybody will get angry.
The library is very useful all of the time. Itís opens early, closes late and it has many computers. If I want to use them at a late time, I can use them. Now, I donít have a computer so sometimes I use their computers. If they didn't have computers, it might be very inconvenient.
The library has a nice balcony. I like the nearby clock tower because it's beautiful at night. Sometimes I look at this tower in the library at night. I think it looks very good so I like the high floors. I especially like 4th floor because it has a very big balcony. I think maybe smoking is possible there. I like smoking so I like it.

The best place in Carbondale is Brookside. It is my village in Carbondale. When I came here I felt safe because Brookside is very quiet. It has a lot of good things: good gardens and good air, good neighbors, quiet, good view.
I like it very much because it is quiet, it has a good neighborhood, it has good air and it has good scenery.
Brookside is very quiet. The reason is because we don't have any noise while some other house have a lot of noise. I think the best study places need quiet. At night Brookside is wonderful about being quiet.
My neighborhood is kind to me. Many residents are students and are very young and sympathize with me and some old people are also kind. When I moved here they answered my questions about downtown and shopping. One nice neighbor even gave me a ride to go shopping.
In the morning and night, I have felt the good air. It is very cool and fresh. As far as I know Carbondale has many trees. Clean air is very good for our health.
I like Brookside's outside space. The reason is because it has a good field and small brook of water and a beautiful view. It is very good scenery.
The conclusion is Brookside is my favorite place. I love this place very much. I highly recommend 1200 E. Grand Ave. Brookside and its vicinity are very nice.

She came to Carbondale twelve days ago. After CESL she wants to study marketing at SIU. She likes reading, music, and swimming.

She practices playing the piano because she hopes to play the piano well. After she graduates from CESL, she would like to study sociology at SIU.

His name is Makoto Sato. He is from Tokyo, Japan. His hobby is riding motorcycles, driving cars, and traveling. There are three people in his family. He is the eldest son. He studies in CESL. He began studying English in March this year. He thinks studying English is very hard. He needs to speak English because he hopes to work in the USA. After CESL he will study mortuary science at SIU. If he finishes SIU, he will get a job in the USA. If he is successful, he is going to look for a job in a larger company.

Byung Hoon Kim is from Korea. His family has three children. Now he lives in Carbondale. The reason he lives in Carbondale now is that he studies English in CESL in Carbondale. He hopes to finish CESL because he wants to study his major. His major is Art. He likes sports, drawing, and painting. He really likes sports, especially Kendo. Kendo is his favorite sport. He has coached Kendo for 4-5 years in Korea.
