Favorite Hobbies
When I was young, I liked to go to the air show and motor show. The air show was very groovy because of the fighters' excellent technique. I was surprised by it. The motor show was very interesting because there were many cars, especially futuristic cars. I felt strong emotions because I liked cars and motorcycles. Now, I like riding motorcycles, driving cars and snowboarding. I like snowboarding because its control is easy and it is nice to look at. I like to ride motorcycles and drive cars because they are very interesting, especially when driving fast. And it is very useful because if I want to go anywhere, I can drive my car. And those hobbies were the same when I was young because I like cars and motorcycles very much. They are my hobbies. I thought almost all of the people in the world have hobbies so I asked people how many hobbies they have and what their favorite hobbies are.
I surveyed people about their favorite hobbies with my partners, Steven and Jack. We wrote some survey questions and then we went to ask people. They were very cooperative and kind people. They were very helpful. We found people usually on campus and a lot of people were students. When we were done, we had surveyed 20 people.
After we looked at the survey answers, we found almost the same answers so we got our thoughts together easily. Only 12 out of 20 people spend a lot of time with their hobbies. And 8 people of those people are single. So, single people spend a lot more time with their hobbies than married people. The hobbies that the 12 people had are playing sports, listening to music and seeing movies.
In our survey, 12 out of the 20 people we asked spent a lot of time with their hobbies and 8 of those 12 are single. My opinion is single people has a lot of time to do their favorite hobbies, because they donít care about their children and husband. I think married people are so busy so they do not have any time. They are busy doing housework, child-rearing, work, etc...

My Survey About the English Language
Did you ever wonder why people want to study English more than any other language? And why the English language is very important for your life. I know I did. I studied English in my country. I used to wonder why everybody wants to speak English so well. For me, the English language is very important, but otherwise it is quite difficult. But some people think the English language is easy to learn. So I decided to ask people about the English language.
I surveyed people about the English language with my partner, Nada. My partner and I asked people both who are American and who are not American that way some people chose to study the English language and some didnít? I walked around SIUC and my dormitory to ask people such as teachers, friends and students. Almost all of the people that I asked were students. Before I asked the questions, I smiled and introduced myself. Then I started to ask the questions. After I finished asking the questions, I never forgot to say "Thank you." Most people that I asked were friendly. They said yes when I wanted to survey them.
After my partner and I looked at the survey answers, we found some interesting results. Everyone said English is very important. Only seven out of eleven people said they found difficulties when they studied English. Only one out of eleven people didnít think that more people are going to use English in the world. Only one out of eleven didnít study English back home.
In our survey, all of the people, both the males and the females that I surveyed, said the English language is very important for their life. I think they are right because almost all of the people in the world speak English. Although the English language is difficult compared to any other language, such as in the grammar, the writing and the pronunciation, everybody chooses to study English. It is the common language that people use in the world.

Favorite Hobbies
What do you do when you have free time? I do many things that I like. When I have no class, I watch television, use the computer, and play basketball. These are my hobbies. To me, using time to do hobbies is a good idea. Some hobbies can help you make new friends. Some hobbies can make your healthy. Some hobbies can help you what you ever knew before. Almost all of the people in the world have hobbies. So I decided to ask people how many hobbies they have and what their favorite hobbies are.
I surveyed people about their hobbies with my partners, Makoto and Steven. I went to the Recreation Center while they when to the LMC and the Student Center. I asked people how many hobbies they have and what their favorite hobbies are. We wrote some survey questions about those topics and more and then went to find people to ask. Because there are a lot of friendly people on campus and in the Recreation Center, we walked around there and looked for people who seemed not busy. We smiled and asked if they would answer some questions for us. Most people said yes. When we were done, we had surveyed 20 people (some students, teachers and SIU staff).
After my partners and I looked at our survey answers, we found some interesting results. Only 12 out of 20 people spent a lot of time with their hobbies. And 8 people of these people are single. A few of the people who spent a lot of time with their hobbies said that they had much free time, so they could do it as much as they want.

Married people may be busy because they have to take care of their families. My parents spent little time with their hobbies because they were busy all the time with their business and my sister and me. My friends who are single also spent a lot of time with their hobbies. They want to spend time with their friends and did whatever they liked to do. They donít have wives or husbands or children, so they have a lot more time than married people have.

A Survey About the English Language
Have you ever asked yourself how important your language is? As for myself, I think the English language is very important. WHY?!? Because it is the way to communicate with and between the world such as. Airlines, business companies and more.... When I was in high school, I loved to teach my cousin the English language just for fun.

My partner Jay and I surveyed people about the English language. We asked people from the USA and other countries. We asked people about what they think about the English language, how much people will use the English language and how is their English (is it bad or very good). I walked around SIUC to survey the people, my neighbor, teachers, friends and students. Before I asked the people, I smiled and introduced myself and then I started to ask the questions. When I finished my survey, I said thanks for helping me out. Almost all of the people I asked were very friendly and nice.
After my partner and I looked at our survey answers, we saw that everyone said English is very important. Only seven of eleven people they found difficulties when they studied English. Only one out of eleven people does not think more people are going to use English in the world. Only one of eleven did not study English back home.
In our survey, 7 out of the 11 felt studying English is difficult. I think the reason for this is because the seven people are not from the USA and it is not easy to speak another language. American people did not have that difficulty because English is the mother language for them. 10 out of the 11 people they thank more people use English because the English is the business language, if you want apply for a job, most of companies require you have known English. 9 out of the 11 people study English in their home country because the English is important language.

Do You Like Movies?
My survey was about movies. And it was just for women. I wanted to know what women think about movie and if the theater is good as a date place. After surveying, I can know what kind of movies women like, how often they see movies, with whom they see and what they think about the theater as a date place.
When I surveyed, it was very funny and serious. It was a great chance to talk with Americans. Whenever I see American women, I talked to them. I said "Excuse me. I have a survey about movies" with a smile. Almost every woman answered friendly. But someone with many piercings rejected me. Actually I was afraid of her. Eventually I finished it without any problems.
The kind of movie women like best are comedies. 15 women said that they like comedies. The second is drama. 9 women picked dramas. Many women would like to see movies with a light heart just for entertainment. 15 out of 17 women sees movies once or twice in a week. When they see movies, they usually see them with family. And a lot of women said that a criterion for selecting movies is content. In general women think that the theater is a good date place.
I think that the reason why almost all women like comedies is because comedies are easier to watch and understand than other movies. Plus I think that many productions attach importance to content. To invest in content is better than paying for actors and advertisements. Some theaters have "couple seats" because they can have more people and money since almost all women think that the theater is a good place to go on a date. The reason why women think like that is that they can talk about same topic such as movies and not be disturbed by others.

After CESL, he will go to SIU. He wants study mortuary science because he takes an interest in anatomy studying. It is very hard but he said, ěI try studying mortuary science.î His English is so bad now but he wants work in the U.S.A., so he must study everyday and speak English very well.

Eric is from Korea. He is a student of Dongguk University in Korea. He is 22 years old. He has parents and a younger sister. They are good people. It is the first time for him in the U.S.A. He likes to play soccer, to sing songs and to go movies. He wants to meet many international friends, so he wants to be an English master. He also wants to have a girlfriend. He lives alone in Forest Hall. It is a dormitory in Carbondale, IL.
